The largest sea island south of New York’s Long Island and north of the Florida Keys, Hilton Head is surrounded by South Carolina’s Low Country, the former home of rice and cotton plantations.

The sub-tropical climate is ideal for live oaks draped with Spanish moss, flowering dogwoods, towering pines, and the state’s emblematic palmetto tree.

Sea oats cap broad white sand beaches that rise to form flowing dunes. The coast is warmed year round by the Gulf Stream, which is ideal deep-sea sport fishing serves as a serene backdrop for professional and recreational golf.

Rising northward from the Savannah River, HHI is an mosaic of golf courses, tennis courts, luxury homes and “villas,” all dotting a 12-mile width from the Inter-coastal Waterway of Calibogue Sound to expansive beaches on the east.

While some have called Hilton Head a Disneyland for adults, there is nothing frivolous about this land of plenty. Cultivating and maintaining a recreational environment focused on maintaining the gentle southern style is serious business here.

HHI is the land where nearly every bush is manicured to look "natural, even commercial signage is heavily regulated to minimize its size interruption of natural aesthetics. Indeed, the town requires merchants even to conceal parking areas with native plantings.
